Valentine's, Vino, and Ventura

Romance your sweetheart over a glass of something sparkling.

FESTIVE FLIGHTS: It charms us that Valentine's Day, at least in popular culture, is often conveyed via photos of pink candies and heart-shaped boxes and wee teddy bears clutching wee balloons. Because the middle-of-February holiday, for many adults? Oh, it can be about those classic touches, but bet a nice bottle of wine'll be involved, too. Which makes Valentine's Day kind of the official holiday of wine regions around the state (we know, autumn is a big time, what with harvest and picking and grape-squishing and all, but there has to be a time to enjoy the fruits of that labor). Several wineries around the Ventura area are teaming up for a special tasting and stay-over event that's scheduled for the weekend just before Valentine's. If you don't have a calendar handy that's Friday, Feb. 10 through Sunday, Feb. 12, and it all starts with forty five dollars.

OR $40: If you purchase your ticket to the Valentine 'N Wine Weekend in advance. That price'll get you five flights at wineries who've jumped into joining the weekend, as well as a crack at hotel deals in the area. The best bit about that, in our opinion, is that the special rates can be for one or two nights; so often it is one night and you're out, especially around a major romance-minded holiday. Yay Ventura, and yay couples looking for a sweet, adult-oriented getaway. If you go ahead and tuck the teddy bear in the backseat, or the candies, because it isn't Valentine's without 'em, well. We'll high-five that. That's the spirit of the love holiday.
