Make-A-Wish: 2,000 People. 2 Miles. One Mission.

Looking for the perfect summer family event that gives back? Come out to the Universal Studios backlot on Saturday July 13 and help Make-A-Wish raise funds to grant 425 L.A. kids’ wishes this year. The 6th Annual Walk for Wishes event starts at 7:30 a.m. and participants will walk through Hollywood history as the route takes walkers through the famous backlot where your favorite movies were made!

The day will feature a festival full of food trucks, face painting, music and more activities for the whole family. The Aquarium of the Pacific’s Mobile Tidepool Exhibit will give kids the opportunity to feel a spiny sea star, touch a slippery sea cucumber or experience the rough textured skin of a shark. For the gamer – or gamer at heart – the GameTruck video game theater will be set up for post-walking fun, equipped with HDTVs and a wide selection of games for Xbox360, Wii, and PlayStation3.

Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles was founded in 1983 on the notion of "one child, one wish." Since then, the organization has brought hope, strength and joy into the lives of more than 8,000 children, courageously battling life-threatening medical conditions.

In 2013, the local chapter will grant 425 wishes to kids living in our community. Each year, 1,000 boys and girls in L.A. County are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness and are eligible to receive a wish, and Make-A-Wish will grant about 50 percent of those eligible this year. As the organization celebrates its 30th Anniversary, it hopes to close this gap and achieve the vision that every eligible child receives a wish.

Walk with wish children, their families, supporters, volunteers, and sponsors as they navigate the 2-mile course to raise money one step at a time. Sign up the whole family at wishLA.org or call 800.322.WISH for more information.

Tune in to “Life Connected” on NBC4 on Sunday, June 23 during the 11 p.m. newscast for a feature segment on one wish child and the kids who rallied around her.
