GlobalGirl Media launched their Summer Training Program for young women in underserved communities who are interested in journalism, media, production and storytelling. The four-week intensive media training program will take place at the University of Southern California's Annenberg School For Communication and Journalism.

NBC4 took part in the training and conducted several workshops with General Assignment Reporter Hetty Chang and Meteorologist Shanna Mendiola, who shared information about their background, career and the different types of opportunities in the news industry.

In 2016, GlobalGirl Media was the first place grant recipient and awarded $100,000 through NBC4, Telemundo 52 and the NBCUniversal Foundation's 21st Century Solutions initiative for their digital journalims program, which empowers young women with hands-on experience to create and storytell through various media and technology platforms.
