More than seven million people in 900 communities nationwide are participating in March for Babies, the annual signature event for the March of Dimes.

NBC4 Meteorologist Crystal Egger, who reports the weather during the morning newscast, “Today in L.A.," from 4:30 to 7 a.m., will co-emcee the event on April 26 with celebrity mom Hilary Duff.

March for Babies supports research and community-based programs that help mothers have full-term, healthy babies. The event has been held annually since 1970, and has raised a combined total of $2 billion to help all babies get a healthy start in life.

The Los Angeles event, the largest in California, is a 3-mile walk that kicks off from the Natural History Museum in Exposition Park at 8 a.m.
