NBC4 Southern California and Telemundo 52 Los Angeles Clear the Shelters adoption drive that took place on July 23, 2016 was a massive success with more than 8,200 animals adopted in Southern California alone.  Nationally, the event resulted in nearly 53,000 adoptions.

Clear the Shelters was created to help address the overcrowding of animals at animal shelters in the Southland and raise awareness about the benefits of adopting from a local shelter.  In 2015, the largest single day pet adoption drive in Southern California resulted in more than 2,500 animals adopted, and 20,000 adoptions throughout the country.

More than 55 shelters/rescue organizations participated and adoptions fees were reduced to $20 for one day only. For a complete map, visit NBCLA.com/CleartheShelters.

NBC4 also also hosted Clear the Shelters pre-events the weekend prior to Clear the Shelters. Visit here to learn more.
