The Walk To End Homelessness — HomeWalk 2010

Homelessness is a solvable problem -- join HomeWalk on November 13, 2010 in Exposition Park

Los Angeles is the homeless capital of the nation. It is estimated that 1.4 million people in Los Angeles County live in poverty. Every night thousands of people face the most extreme form of poverty – life on the streets. Many more are struggling to survive on low-wage jobs that barely pay the rent and all it takes is a job loss or a serious illness to push them over the edge.

You can make a difference!

NBC4 is once again a sponsor of the United Way of Greater Los Angeles’ HomeWalk, taking place on Saturday, November 13, 2010 in Exposition Park. By walking in the 5K, you will help raise money to support the United Way’s work, which focuses on providing homeless individuals with housing first. This model has drastically reduced homelessness in cities like New York, Seattle and Denver. Here in Los Angeles, HomeWalk has funded programs that have already moved 6,000 people into permanent housing with access to the supportive services they need to stay there.

In the past three years, HomeWalk has raised $1.3 million and mobilized 13,000 walkers from all over Los Angeles County to raise awareness of this critical issue.
