Call it the curse of Nationals Park

During the first-ever major music concert with Elton John and Billy Joel at Washington Nationals Park last night, Sir Elton's piano pedal got stuck, causing the international pop star to storm off stage.

From the tweets on D.C. Sports Bog, Twitter users at the sold-out concert had a field day:

  • Elton John's piano broke so he ran off stage. Auspicious start. Don't worry, Billy Joel led a sing-a-long.
  • Oops! Elton John's piano breaks & he storms off stage. Billy Joel keeps playing #Nationals park tonight. Hope Sir Elton goes back on. #fail
  • Elton John's piano broke and he left the stage two songs in, now it's an awesome Billy Joel only concert, even better!
  • Poor Elton John's piano isnt working. just means more Billy!
  • Can't beleive sir Elton John stormed offstage like a schoolgirl. Billy Joel is carrying the show. Go Billy!
  • Elton John should man up and play the piano w a stuck pedal!
  • F'ing hilarious!Elton John's piano pedal was sticking on the first song, n he stormed offstage. The diva is not happy, might b a short show
  • Elton John's piano is broken so I am Noe just attending the Billy Joel concert.
  • I can't believe the Elton John Piano F-Up isn't a trending topic! Billy Joel underneath fixing stuck pedal!

Yes, the Piano Man picked up the slack for the Rocket Man, vamping for the crowd and pretending to fix the problem.  Eventually, the real technicians were able to get everything working again and John came back, apologizing to the crowd and thanking the techs.

Saturday night's glitch wasn't the first technicality for the super duo.  In June, a "technical issue" stopped many people from purchasing tickets for the concert online, an problem that was solved by more tickets being released for sale earlier this month.
