The septuagenarian comic let loose in with some brutal moralizing following reports Sheen is in rehab after his latest booze, drug and hooker-fueled meltdown. Sheen, a thrice-divorced father of five, was rushed to the hospital last week after a wild binge at his Hollywood home went sideways.
"I think he's an a--. When you have a child, darling, you'd better start setting an example," Rivers told The Advocate, which asked her opinion about the rehabbing father of five's recent behavior.
Rivers, 77, made the comment to the magazine while extolling her daughter Melissa's parenting skills. She said the 45-year-old "Two and a Half Men" star needs to get a grip, ASAP.
"Childhood for you is over when you have a child," Rivers continued. "I find it outrageous to be carrying on like that. I also think that when you get the gold ring you have an obligation. The old studio system made you have an obligation to live a clean life and be the example. What am I going to tell my grandson who watches 'Two and Half Men'? I just think he's awful."
Sheen, who has been in rehab several times, has been in freefall since Christmas, 2009, when he was arrested for holding a knife to the throat of then-wife Brooke Mueller. In October, he trashed a New York hotel room while partying with a porn star.
Two porn stars have come forward to say they were at his home for last week's binge, telling stories of wild drug use, drinking and sex.
The Los Angeles Fire Department Wednesday released the 911 call that led to his hospitalization, where a man who says he's a Beverly Hills doctor reported Sheen seemed "very, very intoxicated" and in pain.
Dr. Paul Nassif and his wife, the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Adrienne Maloof, later said they were the one's who called the cops about their high profile neighbor after getting a call from Sheen's home and speaking to him.
