Gaga Picks Career Over Lovers

The pop icon says exes envy her natural talent

If it wasn't clear from her fearless music videos and wardrobe choices, Lady Gaga doesn't change for other people.

That's the message she pushes forward in an interview with Vanity Fair that focuses on her history of failed love.

“I have this effect on people where it starts out good," she said. "Then, when I’m in these relationships with people who are also creative, or creative in their own way, what happens is the attraction is initially there and it’s all unicorns and rainbows. And then they hate me.”

She blames the pattern on her talent, which, she says, inspires jealously.

"If I go to the piano and write a quick song and play it back, they are angry with how fast and effortless it is. That’s who I am, and I don’t apologize for it."

Not surprisingly, she says the opinions of her little monsters are the only ones she's concerned with and bails on relationships when she feels her followers might no longer approve.

"I think, What would my fans think if they knew this was happening? How would they feel about my work and about me as a female if they knew I was allowing this to go on?"

The pop icon, who was rumored to be dating Taylor Kinney from "Vampire Diaries," says boyfriends have popped the question after things turned sour. "Sure, pop a ring on my finger and make it all better. I can buy myself an f-ing ring.”
