Chuck Williams, Founder of Williams-Sonoma, Dies at 100

The founder of the Williams-Sonoma empire has died at the age of 100, The Associated Press reported.

Chuck Williams died peacefully of natural causes Saturday at his home in San Francisco, according to the retail chain.

Williams opened his first Williams-Sonoma store in Sonoma, California, in 1956. He and his business inspired many famous chefs. Renowned chef and restaurateur Thomas Keller said Williams made a major contribution to the world of cuisine.

He sold the company in 1979, but remained closely involved.
