‘Late Night': Cindy Crawford Debunks a Modeling Myth

There’s one thing Cindy Crawford wants people to know about modeling: no one ever tells you “to make love to the camera.”

The 49-year-old retired supermodel told “Late Night” host Seth Meyers she’s never had a photographer ever say that to her on a set.

Crawford graced her first cover on the front page of her hometown newspaper, the “DeKalb Nite Weekly." The black and white photo features the former supermodel lounging by a pool in a striped bikini.

“I was in my boyfriend’s parents’ backyard at their pool,” she told Meyers.

“With all due respect, you look great. This looks super shady,” Meyers said.

The photo is part of Crawford’s new book, “Becoming”.

The book takes a look at her life and career. Crawford was discovered at the age of 16 and became a supermodel in the 1990s. Many of the images that made her famous are also featured in the book, including her very first test shoot.

“This is over-styled. It’s not enough to just have a kimono and an umbrella,” she said. “We have to throw a cat in. We have to throw a bracelet in.”

Crawford said it was that photograph that got her signed to Elite, her first modeling agency.

The book also features the iconic “Vogue” cover, with Crawford and four other supermodels from the 1990s: Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Tatjana Palitz and Christy Turlington.

Crawford’s book is set to be published on Sept. 29.
