Eddie Redmayne may want to get another Oscar acceptance speech ready.

The Brit actor absolutely thrills in the first trailer for "The Danish Girl."

Redmayne, who won his first Oscar earlier this year for playing Stephen Hawking in "The Theory of Everything," stars in "The Danish Girl" as Einar Wegener, a Danish painter who changed her name to Lili Elbe after becoming the first man to have sexual reassignment surgery in 1931.

In the trailer we watch as Einar comes to the realization that he was born a woman after his wife, fellow artist Gerda Wegener (Alicia Vikander), asks him to pose for a painting as a woman.

The trailer is an emotional rollercoaster. Lili is born but not before Gerda protests but then accepts her gender identity.

When Gerda sees Lili kiss a man (Ben Whishaw), she cries, "Lily doesn't exist. We were playing a game."

Later, Lili tells a doctor, "The fact is I believe that I'm a woman."

Gerda agrees. "I believe it, too," she says.

From the shots of Redmayne running his hands over women's clothing to watching the start of the first of Lili's many surgeries, the period piece already proves it's bound to be an awards season favorite.

Redmayne began his research for the role long before cameras started rolling.

"There are many people who have written Ph.D's on Lili's story," he told E! News in November. "Even though it is period and under completely different circumstances than today, I'm meeting many women from the trans community and hearing their experiences."

This included trans women who transitioned back in the 1950s and 1960s.

"I have put on dresses and wigs and makeup," Redmayne said. "I'm beginning to embark on that and trying to find out who she is."

"The Danish Girl" is adapted from writer David Ebershoff's book of the same name. Directed by Redmayne's "Les Miserables" director Tom Hooper, the film's cast also includes Amber Heard and Matthias Schoenaerts.

"The Danish Girl" will premiere later this month at the Toronto International Film Festival. It's set to be in theaters Nov. 27.
