John Oliver Says Goodbye To “The Daily Show”

John Oliver, the stand-in host for "The Daily Show" delivered his last show on Thursday night.

Last night marked the end of a brief yet memorable era for "The Daily Show."

John Oliver, the stand-in host for the popular satirical television program, delivered his last show on Thursday night. The British comedian, who began his eight week stint as a host on July 10, replaced Jon Stewart for the summer, according to TODAY.com. Stewart took time off to direct his first film, "Rosewater," in the Middle East.

After Oliver admitted to the audience that he has been lying about Stewart's whereabouts this summer, he continued to deliver on his "final silly show."

"Traditionally this can be a slow time for news. But this particular summer has just been one story after another," he said.

Oliver reminisced the memories he had this summer and said he had "so much fun" during his brief stint as a fill-in host. He had the opportunity to cover the voting rights act, gay marriage, Paula Deen, immigration, the royal baby and The Anthony Weiner scandal in the past few weeks.

Critics wondered how the show would be affected without Stewart, but the numbers show that ratings remained unchanged during Oliver's time at the "Daily Show," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jon Stewart will be back hosting on "The Daily Show" on Sept. 3.
