Helms will play Rusty Griswold, a role made famous by Anthony Michael Hall in the original John Hughes comedy. Skyler Gisondo and Steele Stebbins have been tapped to play his sons. Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo, who played Clark Griswold and Ellen Griswold, have agreed to reprise their roles.

In the sequel, Rusty takes a family trip similar to the one he took as a boy.
