“The Voice” Gets Its Top 10 as Vedo, Garrett Head Home

The coaches were powerless Tuesday night to save the two contestants America voted to send home.

"The Voice" got its Top 10 on Tuesday, and it's a fearsome one this season.

Until now, the fates of "Voice" contestants had been ultimately been in the hands of their coaches, but Tuesday saw America's votes alone sending home two contenders for the first time yet this season. New coaches, Shakira and Usher, both lost a hopeful each -- gravelly-voiced 17-year-old Garrett Gardner and energetic R&B singer Vedo.

The night began with a slew of performances not just by the aspiring pop stars competing for the title prize — though there were plenty of those — but also by some household names: Robin Thicke, T.I. and Pharrell Williams, with the help of contestants Vedo and Kris Thomas, performed "Blurred Lines."

Later, Blake joined the three members of his all-country team for a honkytonk cover of Brooks & Dunn's "Play Something Country," and Team Adam's three women joined with Lady Antebellum for "Goodbye Town" and later with their own coach for a cover of the Cure's "Love Song."

But, unsurprisingly, things really heated up when the contenders for the title of "The Voice" assembled onstage for the eliminations.

Team Shakira's Kris, he of the impeccable vocal range, was first to be declared safe, followed by Team Blakes's The Swon Brothers, the competition's only duo. Next announced safe were Team Adam's silken-voiced Sarah Simmons and Team Usher's pop-rock crooner Josiah Hawley.

Next came two contestants nobody had any doubts would continue on the show: another Team Adam member, soul diva Judith Hill, and Team Blake's Danielle Bradbery, whom Adam himself declared Monday night was the one to beat.

And as things came down to the wire, indie-pop belter Michelle Chamuel was announced safe, followed by Team Adam's country crossover hopeful Amber Carrington — meaning Team Adam had survived the eliminations intact.

Country singer Holly Tucker got a reprieve, too, meaning all of Team Blake had also emerged unscathed. Team Shakira's soul-turned-Broadway singer Sasha Allen got good news, too.

That meant something else altogether for her teammate, Garrett Gardner, and for Team Usher's Vedo. The pair now head home.

"The Voice" now has its Top 10 but not for long.

The live playoffs, replete with more eliminations, will continue next week.

"The Voice" airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c.
