Robert Downey Jr. is Number 1 on Forbes' List of Top Earning Actors

"Iron Man" star Robert Downey Jr. topped Forbes magazine's latest list of the top earning actors for the second year in a row after securing an estimated $75 million between June 2013 and June 2014, the same amount as he earned last year.

His whopping intake is mostly due to his portrayal of the popular superhero character. Marvel movies starring Downey have earned almost $4 billion at the global box office and millions more on home video, not to mention the millions the movies have generated in merchandise, according to Forbes.

In fact, Downey Jr. is expected to earn more than before for the upcoming "Avengers: Age of Ultron" after holding out during negotiations.

Coming in second on the list is former wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, with an estimated $52 million mostly thanks to his work in movies like the "Fast and Furious" franchise. Bradley Cooper, who is currently promoting "Guardians of the Galaxy," where he voices the character of Rocket Raccoon, came in at No. 3 with $46 million.

Leonardo DiCaprio snagged the fourth spot an estimated $39 million in earnings, thanks to the box office success of "The Wolf of Wall St." and "The Great Gatsby." And rounding out the top five is fellow superhero, Chris Hemsworth, who earned an estimated $37 million for his work with the "Thor" franchise and the Michael Mann and Ron Howard-directed biopic, "Rush."
