Jennifer Hudson Gives Birth to Baby Boy

Oscar winner welcomes son after tragedy hit her family

Singer and "American Idol" finalist Jennifer Hudson gave birth to a son Monday night, bringing light to the star's life just months after her mother, brother and nephew were shot to death in a gruesome triple murder.

Hudson, who won an Oscar for her role in "Dreamgirls," reportedly gave birth to baby boy David Daniel Otunga Jr., her child with fiancee and reality star David Otunga. The baby weighed in at seven pounds, 14 ounces, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Hudson never publicly announced her pregnancy, though rumors that the star was expecting have swirled for months.

She and Otunga have kept their personal lives behind closed doors since the October shootings left Hudson's mother, Darnell Donerson, brother, Jason Hudson and 7-year-old nephew Julian King dead in Hudson's hometown of Chicago.

Hudson's estranged brother-in-law William Balfour was charged with the three counts of first-degree murder but pleaded not guilty.

Hudson and Otunga, a contestant on "I Love New York 2," conceived their son just after the tragedy.

The couple didn't know the sex of the baby before he was born, according to the Hollywood Reporter, so Otunga and Hudson bought both pink and blue clothes for their newborn.

Hudson's camp has yet to officially confirm the birth.
