Lady GaGa “Born This Way” Video Premieres

The song is the first No. 1 hit to use the word "transgender"

Lady GaGa's much anticipated music video for "Born This Way" has hit the web, and Little Monsters are not disappointed.

Two weeks after the global pop star preformed the song live on the Grammy's, GaGa released the sci-fi inspired video exclusively on PerezHilton.com before it spread on the internet. She directed the video herself with the help of choreographer Laurieann Gibson and fashion photographer Nick Knight.

"This is the manifesto of Mother Monster," the video begins, with a narrated prologue about "the beginning of the new race, a race within the race of humanity, a race which bears no prejudice."

Kaleidoscopic images in space then give way to choreographed dancing, skeleton make-up, and moreGaGa-eque freakishness.

Billboard points out that "Born This Way" is the first No. 1 song that uses the word "transgendered," and the fashion-loving superstar said it was a goal of hers.

"I wanted to put my money exactly where my mouth is," the singer said in a Billboard interview out this week. "The Little Monsters all over the world as well as the gay community have been tremendously supportive over the years and I have in turn been supportive. Let's call a spade a spade…. this is my chance to create something that is not only supportive of my political and social beliefs--not just for the gay community, but for everyone… This is also my chance to artistically say, 'I'm not being safe with this record.'"
