Charlie Sheen Tops Social Media Survey

Sheen is doing the opposite of losing when it comes to social media.

He may have just been fired from his starring gig on "Two and a Half Men," but when it comes to social media, Charlie Sheen is winning in a big way.

Whatever terrestrial plane the outspoken actor is operating on, he's become the king of all social media since the start of 2011, beating out Lady Gaga, President Obama and the hype surrounding the release of the new iPad according to a survey released by the Global Language Monitor, reports Reuters.

"Charlie Sheen...is everywhere. The growing pervasiveness of social media only enhances this global echo chamber," said Paul JJ Payack, president of the media analytics company.

Using a special algorithm that examined the top 20 persons or things of interest on blogs, social media sites like Twitter and Youtube, and Internet-only news sites between January 1 and March 8, 2011, Sheen topped the ranking and was followed by the iPad, Gaga, Obama and Sarah Palin.

But Sheen fell to 18th when placed in a list that examined the top 75,000 traditional print and electronic media sites covered by the survey.

Obama, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and embattled Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi were the top three people of interest in the traditional list, an ordering that Payack attributed to "an editorial process that helps discern which news is most significant for the reader."
