MTV Show's Miami “G” Charged With Murder

Contestant on reality show faces charges in '06 slaying

A Miami barber who appeared on MTV's From G's to Gents was a murder suspect in a 2006 South Florida shooting before he made his reality show debut.

Baron "Dirty" Colon is being held without bond on first-degree murder and armed burglary charges after his arrest last week, the Miami Herald reports.

Colon, 24, appeared on the show in 2009 in an attempt to turn his life around, but police say his past caught up to him.

From G's to Gents, hosted by P Diddy protege Fonzworth Bentley and produced by Jamie Foxx, pits a group of "rough-around-the-edges young men against each other to see who can most transform into a "true gentleman."

If his profile on mtv.com is any indication, Colon fits the "gangsta" bill. He claims his mother threw him in the trash when he was a baby, before she died of a drug overdose. He claims that with his dad in and out of prison most of his life, he was a foster child most of his life, going from home to home.

He also said he had a police record as a kid and spent time in juvenile detention throughout his young life.

"I got two kids. I want to be in the gentleman's club because I want to change, for them," Colon said in the opening episode, according to the Herald. "If I don't change, there's only going to be two things: prison, or death."

Prison may be exactly where Colon is heading, now that he's charged with the Jan. 2006 murder of Kendall artist Marcelo Vera during a botched robbery at Vera's home.

According to police, Colon had long been a suspect in the murder but it wasn't until last year, when Colon blabbed about the murder to a confidential informant, that investigators got some solid evidence.

Police say Colon, 26-year-old Stephany Concepcion and two other men known as "Big Killer" and "Crazy Dread" targeted Vero after he had somehow angered Concepcion.

The four had planned on robbing Vero at his home at 14044 Southwest 104th Terrace, but when they got there, the heist went horribly wrong.

Vero was shot and killed, and the three men fled the home, leaving Concepcion for the police. She was charged and later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 15 years behind bars.

Though Concepcion fingered Colon in the killing, police had no other evidence on him. He went about his life, flying out to Los Angeles for the second season of From G's to Gents, where he was a finalist.

But when Colon returned to Miami last year and was caught on tape discussing the murder, including details that only someone who was there would know, investigators had him.

An arrest warrant says Colon described the caliber of the guns used in the killing, and how Vero put up a fight and begged for his life before Colon and one of his cohorts shot him.

Colon is scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 28.
