And to the network for which it stands, one nation, indivisible…
Well, not so indivisible. Showtime’s decided to ax the half-hour show "United States of Tara," a comedy about a mother (Toni Collette) who has multiple-personality disorder.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show started strong (it didn’t hurt to have buzzy names like Diablo Cody and Steven Spielberg behind the scenes), but lost viewers as the seasons progressed.
Toni Collette won an Emmy (2009) and a Golden Globe (2010) for her frenetic, manifold portrayal, switching between a 1950’s housewife, a punky teenager, a male yokel, and herself. Other personalities were added on in the latest season.
But, for those who like Showtime’s quirky sense of humor, fear not! The lovable but flawed “Nurse Jackie” (played by Edie Falco) will be back for a 4th season.
