Music festival announcements seems to come in twos and threes and occasionally fours around the Golden State. Call it the music magic or savvy planning or simply an act of good timing, but call it helpful for those who love to see a lot of acts over one fairly tight window of time.
The FYF Fest line-up was just announced, a few days after the Coachella Music and Arts Festival dates for 2015. That's an excellent convergence, given that fans were primed for an out-sized sound event happening far sooner, and FYF will. It again lands in the summertime -- Saturday, Aug. 23 and Sunday, Aug. 24 -- but the location is new to the fest.
Head for the LA Sports Arena & Exposition Park, Metro riders.
On the docket? Phoenix and The Strokes are the large names on the line-ups. Blood Brothers are getting a lot of buzz, given that they broke up in 2007, so count on plenty of longtime fans showing up for that much-anticipated reunion.
Haim, Built to Spill, Mariachi El Bronx, Les Sins, Death Grips, The Presidents of the United States, Interpol, Grimes, Four Tet, and Julian Casablancas + The Voidz are all on the two-day bill.
FYF Fest, which became much associate with LA State Historic Park during the latter half of its first decade, is marking its 11th year. But it started back at The Echo, and still retains a lot of that alt-embracing, do-your-own-thing spirit, even as the festival has grown and grown.
And grown. Just goes to show that anything can start in a cool club and maybe, eventually, with time and oomph and good word of mouth and a diverse roster of bands, make it to the Sports Arena.
Weekend passes go on sale at noon on Thursday, May 22.
