First-time snowboarders all complain about the same thing: Sore backsides. Chalk it up to too many tumbles on the tush.

The Burton Snowboard Academy at Northstar won't guarantee you'll keep your keister off the snow, but they will make sure you're as pampered as possible while they show you the ropes of world-class shredding.

Designed to welcome new riders to the sport, the Burton Snowboard Academy uses a terrain-based teaching methodology. Coaches lead classes through the Academy Terrain Area, which includes features like mini rollers, mini halfpipes and small banks to control speed and take the fear out of sliding down the hill while making moves to develop your unique style. And students will never have to worry about a lack of attention -- each class has a 1:4 coach:student ratio.

The gear is just as forward-thinking. Students are setup with the latest Burton tech, like boots, bindings and boards specifically designed for beginers. Safety precautions like helmets and wrist guards are provided free of charge.

Need a break? Students will enjoy The Lounge, where they can kickback in front of flatscreen tvs and around firepits while enjoying freshly-brewed java from the coffee bar. Coaches take the lesson inside, giving each student a private consultation and video analysis, making this a fully immersive learning experience.
