CicLAvia: Culver City Meets Venice pedals/jogs/rolls on Sunday, Aug. 9. The mega bike meet-up, streets-are-closed shindig is free.

If you're that person who once arrived at a Halloween party wearing a T-shirt that says "I forgot to buy a Halloween costume," you know the pain of milling about among those revelers who planned their get-ups months in advance. And you vowed, then and there, to never do anything at the last second again.

In that spirit, get cracking, planners. If you like bikes and free fun things, then start brainstorming about what you'll do for your bicycle ahead of the upcoming CicLAvia.

You know this mondo-huge-everyone-ride-tacular, which started in LA back in 2010. A few major streets are closed to autos and everyone may bike or skate or run or walk among tens of thousands of other Angelenos.

Next up: CicLAvia takes on Culver City and Venice on Sunday, Aug. 9.

Thousands Turn Out for CicLAvia in San Fernando Valley

[LA] Thousands Turn Out for CicLAvia in San Fernando Valley
Thousands of people participated in the San Fernando Valley edition of CicLAvia. Melissa Etezadi reports for the NBC4 News at 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2015. (Published Sunday, March 22, 2015)

That gives you a bit of time still to dig out the ol' sparkly handlebar streamers, the ones tied to your first princess bike back in 1982, and re-tie them to your current roll. You may want to cover your helmet in colorful stickers or think about a retro roller derby outfit.

Or you may just want to show up wearing/riding what you've got, no frills needed. It's very much a come-as-you-are dealie, though plenty of people deck out their bikes, decoration-wise, while some go the distance sartorially, too.

The to-knows for this go-around? It's a "six-mile variation of the 2013 CicLAvia Westside route," a change-up that digs deeper into Culver City's local eateries, hangouts, and historic spots.

You may want to make time to swing by the Mar Vista Farmers Market, and the many booths and special happenings dotting the route. Cirque du Soleil and "KURIOS" will make a cameo.

And, as always, there is no beginning, middle, or end to a CicLAvia event. This isn't a high-pressure race, but a you-set-your-pace affair. Want to ride one block and head home? Do it. Want to cruise the entire route a couple of times? Arrive early and try.

A CicLAvia neighborhood guide should keep you on the up-and-up before your pedals go up-and-down.

And the times? Nine o'clock in the A.M. to 4 P.M. And the Metro info and the getting-there info and the stuff you need to know? Turn your handlebars this way.

Speaking of which, you should really, really dig out those 1980s-cute sparkly handlebar streamers. It's a festive occasion, and some pizzazz with your pedal is a sight that's welcomed by the countless other riders you'll zoom along.
