Tree branches that are way above our heads, the sort of expansive branches that seem to practically touch the sky?
The sun does a pretty successful job of keeping those limbs lit, in a lovely and bright way, throughout the day. But, come the nighttime, it is up to the moon, if the moon is doing its full-on full thing, to provide ample illumination.
There is an atmospheric asterisk to the evening illumination of tall trees, and it arrives around the middle of November at Descanso Gardens in La Cañada Flintridge.
That's the moment when Enchanted: Forest of Light blooms at the oak-packed property, and that's when both the historic spread's stately trees, and the shrubs closer to the ground, go aglow after sundown.
It was quite the popular happening in 2016, unsurprisingly, and, also unsurprisingly, tickets are going on sale far in advance of the Nov. 19, 2017 opening.
Member tickets are available on Monday, Oct. 2 on 10 o'clock, with tickets to the general public going on sale on Monday, Oct. 16.
So what's afoot, or atree, rather, for 2017? "New expansions and enhancements will be made to last year's most popular displays such as Flower Power and the Ancient Forest," reveals a Descanso Gardens release.

Also, "...an interactive landscape of meandering pathways of light" is set for its debut in 2017. The experience is called, poetically, "Aqueous."
The whole walk-through, bundle-up happening is a different take on the major holiday events. Nature is the emphasis, and night, too, and a more meditative approach to a season that can feel a little super-charged, and overly scheduled, as it gets going.
