    The Music Center
It's gratis, it is glittery, and it is downtown: Join the yearly sing-along on Music Center Plaza on Friday, Dec. 16.

So many of our favorite carols contain lyrics that boldly address meteorological matters, from "oh, the weather outside is frightful" to "the sun is shining, the grass is green, the orange and palm trees sway..."

Thus keeping an eye on December skies while planning on attending a carol event, an event that happens outdoors, is a wise move, one that's long been advised by the carols themselves.

The merry upshot? Check the forecast before making for one of downtown's most delightful and free-to-join-iest happenings, the annual Music Center Holiday Sing-Along.

Rain is expected early on Friday, Dec. 16, but weather — er, whether — the moist conditions hang around that night, dampening Santa hats and snowman sweaters, remains to be seen.

If you get the "all clear" from the clearing skies, here's what to expect: A gratis, good-feeling'd evening of caroling classics, songs you can jump into with full-throated enthusiasm.

The "gratis" part has an asterisk: You'll need a ticket, even though this is free. How to get it? Queue up by 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 16 to score an entry (and note that you can't grab tickets for your whole crew; it's a one-ticket, one-person deal for those waiting in line).

The time for all of this come-together-and-croon community-ing is 6 to 7:30, and, nope, you don't need to know every lyric by heart. (Even though you surely knew that the lyric quoted above, the one that starts "the sun is shining," is the not-often-heard, LA-themed opening to "White Christmas.")

Lyric sheets will be handed out, so don't worry about flubbing any words or warbles. This is a low-key and sweet night for all Southern Californians looking for cheer, togetherness, and a night that is sure to sparkle from both the raindrops on the ground and the feeling in the air.
