    Grand Central Market
Grand Central Market will stay open until 9 p.m. every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday starting on June 3.

When you're just a couple of years away from your 100th birthday, what will you be doing? Trying new things? Embracing change? Taking a different path?

If you've already passed your centennial, did you go with the new?

That's the plan for Grand Central Market, which will indeed mark its first century in a couple of years. The oh-so-grand-indeed Broadway-based public market, with its many meat- and fruit- stalls, has long been a daytime dining staple on the downtown scene.

Need a cup of joe or an apple or a paleta on the way into work? You got it.

But nights were a different matter. The market typically shuttered at 6 p.m., save the occasional special event (like the Vintage LA movie evenings held at the Million Dollar Theatre next door).

Change was on the wind, however, and the savory smells of barbecue and pizza, too. With the introduction of new spots like Olio Pizza and Horse Thief Barbecue, Grand Central has been expanding its reach, its outlook, and its hours, meaning it will now be open through 9 p.m. every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

It's good news for people working near Broadway and those who call downtown home -- a new/old dinner spot brimming with charm, fruit juices, history, and delicious tacos. And more more more.

First late date? Thursday, July 3. dublab DJs'll be in the house, or, um, market, over the first later-night weekend, to celebrate the big change.

And it is a big change, following the big change of 12 new eateries and occupants moving into the market over the last couple of years.

Grand Central Market is located at the base of Angels Flight near Broadway and Third.
