Anaheim

Opening: Disney ‘Guardians of the Galaxy' Ride

The new movie-inspired attraction will debut at Disney California Adventure beginning on Saturday, May 27.

Following Rocket into a tummy-knotting adventure, the sort that potentially involves The Collector's fortress? Total intensity, for you know the quippy, take-no-guff "Guardians of the Galaxy" raccoon won't lead you into some humdrum, yawn-inducing happening.

Rather, Rocket is serving as a snappy guide at an attraction that'll soon make its debut at Disney California Adventure. Called Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT!, the attraction, which was built inside the former Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, involves rescuing the Guardians of the Galaxy, "the newest acquisitions" in Taneleer Tivan's collection.

The "Rockin' Free-Fall Adventure" will open on Saturday, May 27. The tall building definitely boasts some drops,  and some unusual floral specimens, too, (think "Gardens of the Galaxy"), and the retro-fied feel-good music found in the films.

Will the ride be part of the FastPass program? It will be, yes.

Will there be other superheroic goings-on around Disney California Adventure? In fact, May 27 is the launch of Summer of Heroes, a summer-long extravaganza incorporating a number of different events, meet-and-greets, and fun times.

Look for the Avengers Training Initiative, a "Guardians of the Galaxy" Awesome Dance Off, a Heroic Encounter with Black Widow, a chance to say hello to varous super heroes in Hollywood Land, and more.

Summer of Heroes also opens on May 27, like Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT!, but note its end date: Sunday, Sept. 10.
