Seven-Movie Marathon: “Fast” Films Peel Out at CityWalk

The 1967 Camaro from "Furious 7" will be on display, too

The run-up, see-all-the-films-that-came-before-this-one movie marathon has become such a staple with long-running franchises that a fan can get a mite disappointed if one isn't scheduled.

Add something special to the marathon event -- like a major prop from the film on display, and costumes, too -- and something to anticipate -- like a new theme park thrill ride -- and you have a movie marathon that all future movie marathons will have to top.

"Furious 7" opens wide on Friday, April 3, but the AMC Theatres at Universal CityWalk are starting the vroom-vroom early on Tuesday, March 31, and Thursday, April 2, when the first six "Fast and Furious"  films will unspool. The newest entry in the franchise ends the marathon on Thursday, April 2, when "Furious 7" begins to open at "select times every seven minutes after the hour."

As for that major prop? Calling the 1967 Camaro seen in the film "a prop" seems a little iffy. It's a powerful machine, and the movie star muscle car be sitting outside the theaters, on CityWalk, during the premiere week, as well as other cars from the films. It revs up and revs away on Sunday, April 5.

"Revs" is not used lightly here -- its horsepower clocks in at 500.

As for the aforementioned theme park thrill ride? It's "Fast and Furious -- Supercharged" and it comes at the conclusion of the Universal Studios Hollywood Studio Tour. Look for the jumps/bumps that the films have become known for, 3D-HD-style, to play out on what's billed as the planet's largest 3D screen.

Can you take photos of the theater-close Camaro? You can. Can you enjoy DJ-spun tunes throughout the opening weekend at CityWalk's 5 Towers concert area? That's a big yes. Can you eye costumes from the film inside, clothes worn by Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson? For sure; they're at the theatres through April 10. Can you start plotting your theme park thrill ride experience when the new experience debuts just days into the summer season? You bet -- the grand opening is June 25.
