Show Up on Your Cycle, Score Some Savings

You and your two-wheeler are about to save some Long Beach-style bucks.

How you arrive at a place of business is almost never a thing.

You can show up by tugboat or in a little red wagon or on foot, and the shopkeeper or restaurant owner will not give a whit. No inquiries are made, and you proceed to go about your buying or dining business with no discussion as to your arrival method.

But there is a way of getting somewhere that can net you a bevy of discounts. That is if you happen to be in certain areas of Long Beach and you happen to be on your bike and it happens to be a Saturday.

The program is called Bike Saturdays, handily enough, and here's how it works: Pedal up to businesses on Retro Row or along Belmont Shore or in Bixby Knolls or Los Altos and score some savings.

Retro Row stores and eateries offering specials include Honduras Kitchen, Moxi Shop, and the always fantastic and locally beloved Portfolio Coffeehouse. (Seriously, if you call yourself a coffeehouse maven but haven't spent an hour reading an old paperback at Portfolio while sipping something with chai, please correct that at once.)

The deals and giveaways and such will vary, as can be expected with a program that covers several dozen businesses and a bunch of different businesses to boot. But you might as well look for the green and yellow "Bike Saturdays" sticker in the window and inquire within.

That is, if you're on your bike. But if it is a pretty, marine-y Saturday in the LBC, you very likely are, right?
