The 19-Stop Movie Fest Tour

Eat|See|Hear opens with "Raiders of the Lost Ark."

The thing about movie screens? Not to unleash a spoiler or surprise revelation here, but they tend to be nailed to walls or secured in some other permanent way.

Maybe that's to keep the movies near the concession stands; maybe having one address inspires repeat business. But where that leaves the film fan looking to be a bit of a vagabond, footloose and free of fancy, is a question.

Thank goodness, though, for our summertime outdoor movie series. They're something of a staple around Southern California, and with good reason: People like to sit outdoors, watch classic films, eat snacks, and hear tunes.

Eat|See|Hear is up next out of the cinematic gate. The cinema feast opens for the warm-weather season on Saturday, May 11 with "Raiders of the Lost Ark." You've heard of it? Fedoras, big boulders, snakes? All of the above.

That takes places at Paul Revere Middle School, and the series hits the road. There'll be some repeat stops, but locations will include Santa Monica High School, Centennial Square at Pasadena City Hall, and Los Angeles Trade Tech College.

In short? They're thinking outside of the box for setting. Er, not box, but park, which tends to be the most common way to see an outdoor film.

As mentioned, food trucks aplenty and bands tag along for the lively ride. Animal adoptions will pop up, too, which warms the cockles. There'll be a Christmas in July "Elf" screening, too. Festive.

And the screen? It's inflatable and quite state of the art. Summertime is perfect for inflatables, though, right? Water wings, pool toys...

Eat|See|Hear is set to screen weekly through Sept. 14. There are tickets, and there are Fashionably Late tickets, so see what suits your style, cinema lover.
