Weekend: 1000+ Animals at NKLA Adoption

Woofs, meows, barks, and purrs'll sound at the La Brea Tar Pits.

NKLA ADOPTION WEEKEND: So you've been thinking about adding a furry sweetheart to your home ranks, but haven't gotten the day to visit shelters. This Nov. 9 and 10 La Brea Tar Pits event is just the key, especially since over 1000 adoptable dogs and cats are set to show. Admission is free, there shall be food trucks and purveyors of interesting, petly goods, and adoption fees start at $25. Here's hoping you lock eyes, or go hand-in-paw, with just the right lovey.

NATIONAL PARKS FREE DAYS: The National Park Service waives admission at those parks that charge an entrance fee over a few days a year. The final free dates of 2013 have arrived, and they happen in honor of Veterans Day. Make for Yosemite or Death Valley or another one of the parks that normally charge entrance and stash your cash for a picnic near a waterfall or dune. Dates are Saturday, Nov. 9 through Monday, Nov. 11.

WORLD'S LARGEST BOW: Getting a jump on the whole holiday shopping thing? If you start at the Citadel Outlets, you'll be treated to an unusual sight. And make that a mammoth sight, too: The 5-close shopping destination is now home to the world's largest bow, a giant, red, glittery topper that is set to outdo all seasonal decorations for sheer wowness. But the wowness'll continue, seasonally, next week, when the Grove debuts its huge tree, officially, on Sunday, Nov. 17. Oh, hi, holidays.

ARTS DISTRICT TOUR: If you hear about something that's a) lively or b) tasty or c) full of art or d) full of music or e) is some sort of flavored stout or ale, chances these days is that it is originating in the downtown-y nook called the Arts District. The LA Conservancy is leading a tour on Sunday, Nov. 10 -- cost is $35 -- which'll garner you some deep knowledge about all of those storied, brick-and-beam buildings.

FILM FESTIVALS: AFI FEST Presented by Audi gets going in Hollywood this weekend -- look for stars and premieres and all of those nice free tickets this fest is famous for -- and the All Sports Film Festival rolls and dribbles and throws in North Hollywood. Fictional gems and documentaries spotlighting heroes on the court and off are in play through Monday, Nov. 11.
