Weekend: FYF Fest

Tunes, so, so many: Bands descend upon LA State Historic Park.

FYF FEST: What's the local indie-nice music gathering that's grown and grown and grown? Hint: It's FYF Fest, though we're not sure if three "growns" is enough. Remember when rocked The Echo in the mid-aughts? Now FYF Fest fills out LA State Historic Park, over two jam-packed days, and much-ballyhooed (and rightfully ballyhooed) acts like The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, MGMT, My Bloody Valentine, TV on the Radio, Beach House, Solange, Washed Out, and The Breeders will be thanking the crowd (after rocking/singing/so forth). Dates? Saturday, Aug. 24 and Sunday, Aug. 25.

LA FOOD + WINE: It's a big'n on the foodie calendar, and for big reasons: Major cooks show, events happen at various points around town, the to-dos are ticketed separately (meaning you can dip in then dip out, if you choose), and the stuff to do is fun: Belgium beer tastings, pairing cheese with wine, cooking demos, and lunches that are tonier than lunches usually get. Yeah, you're still thinking about the cheese thing, right? Get the info and get tickets. Through Sunday, Aug. 25.

KCON USA: It's one big K-Pop confab, and a number of artists are set to take the stage at the LA Sports Arena: Missy Elliott, DJ Koo, and Dynamic Duo. Korean food demos, spicy tofu eating challenge, Korean fashion, music treats, and all things Hallyu shall reign over the two-day spectacular. Workshops and panels fill out the Saturday, Aug. 24 and Sunday, Aug. 25. schedule.

FIESTA LA BALLONA: Most places are friendly toward a big city like LA, but some non-LAers can't quite believe a city the size of ours can have long-running hometown parties full of sweet carnival rides, fried foodstuffs, and neighbors being neighborly. This Culver City party, however, proves we can. It's a standard-bearer, in fact, given that it has been around for over six decades. Going? See you at Veteran's Park through Sunday, Aug. 25.

AVOCADO FESTIVAL: Beer and guacamole have been together since bottles and bowls were dreamt up, or just about. Now you can have your alligator pear inside your brew, courtesy of Avocado Ale. It's the latest batch from Angel City Brewery, which is throwing a full-on food-and-drink party to celebrate the food-forward libation. Yep, there shall be traditional guacamole for the eating, too. Tempted, green-fruit-ists? Be at the Arts District brewery on Saturday, Aug. 24.
