Rail Crossing Among LA's “Most Dangerous” Could Close

A recent NBC4 I-Team investigation found that California leads the nation in fatal crashes at train crossings.

The future of one of the most dangerous rail crossings in Los Angeles County is under consideration by rail officials who say the crossing has a high potential for disaster because of its proximity to a propane facility.

The crossing in question is situated at Doran Street and sits on the border between Los Angeles and Glendale.

Transportation officials are reviewing several options for the future of the Doran Street crossing, which include closing it for good and getting it ready for high-speed rail.

An NBC4 I-Team investigation found that California leads the nation in fatal crashes at train crossings.

While the Doran Street crossing is considered among the most perilous in Los Angeles County, the most dangerous train crossing in the state is also situated in the Southland, where Nogales Street crosses the tracks in Rowland Heights.

According to a new federal report, that crossing is the third most dangerous in the United States. Forty-thousand cars cross the tracks, over which 52 trains rumble each day.
