Missing Burbank Man is FBI Agent

The man was last seen by family on Thursday and may be suicidal

Police are searching for an FBI agent said to be despondent and possibly suicidal and who was last seen by family on Thursday night.

Stephen Ivens, 35, was reported missing Friday morning from his home in the 1700 block of Scott Road in Burbank.

Laura Eimiller, an FBI spokeswoman, confirmed the man is an FBI agent assigned to FBI's Los Angeles division.

Ivens has worked on national security cases for the past three years. Before that he spent eight years as an LAPD officer.

Police searched the hillside areas around Burbank on Saturday and said a gun that Ivens had in the house is unaccounted for.

"There is no history of violence associated with special agent Ivens or any known threat to the community," the FBI's Steven Gomez said.

Bloodhounds picked up his scent leading into the rugged Verdugo Mountains near Stough Park, an area he's familiar with because he's avid runner and hiker.

Ivens left his cell phone and wallet at home, and his credit cards have not been used, investigators said.

Multiple local agencies are investigating, in addition to the Burbank Police Department and the FBI.

"He's very well liked and is a very good person in the community," Gomez said. "That's why we're taking this very seriously, and we want to make sure we are able to find him."

Authorities are expected to resume the search on Sunday morning.
