Girl, 2, Dies After Being Struck By Big Rig

Officials said that the child was rushed to Antelope Valley Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

A 2-year-old girl has died after being struck by a big rig in Lancaster around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The big rig was making a right-turn at the corner of Avenue J at Valley Central Way in Lancaster when it struck the toddler who was walking with her mom in the crosswalk, Los Angeles County Sheriff Sgt. David Jennings said.

The child was rushed to Antelope Valley Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries, officials said.

Preliminary investigation showed that alcohol was not a factor in the accident, officials said. The driver stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation, Jennings said.

Avenue J at Valley Central Way was closed for investigation but has since then been reopened.
