Finding the perfect pad in the right neighborhood can be a challenge. Whether you’re a college student or a long time resident, new search sites promise to help. Our friends over at Lifehacker put together a handy list of go-to sites for those ready to move.

Topping the list is Hotpads.com, a new approach that lets users overlay different criteria on a map such as income level, median age, and median rent. Called “heat maps,” Hotpads can “give you a view of your future neighborhood that a simple apartment listing can't,” says Lifehacker.

If you’re a Craigslist fan, PadMapper.com may put some punch in your search. The site aggregates information and puts them on a Google Maps mash up letting you see a neighborhood at a glance. Simple tools let you narrow your search by price, rooms, and age of listings.

Web savvy searchers will recognize Apartments.com. Featuring “and absolutely enormous” library of listings, the site lets you easily find your next place. Iphone users can access the site on the go and use their gps to filter results nearest their location.

MyApartmentMap.com gives you rental data, price comparisons, and more. You can browse local hotspots, the social scene, and discover local businesses. Students will appreciate listings sorted around local colleges and universities. Email and RSS alerts keep you up to date on the latest listings.

For the full reviews, head over to Lifehacker.com. Now if only someone could make packing a one click process.
