Car Hits Dead Boar in Sonoma County Road; Driver Uninjured

A Sacramento man escaped injury when his vehicle crashed into a dead boar on state Highway 28 in northeast Sonoma County Tuesday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.

The 35-year-old man was driving a Mazda 3 west on state Highway 128 near La Franci Creek in Knights Valley when he hit the boar around 6:30 a.m., CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.

The driver couldn't avoid hitting the dead animal in the road and lost control of his vehicle, which then struck and knocked over a utility pole, Sloat said.

A PG&E crew responded within 30 minutes, and the driver was not injured, Sloat said.

The collision closed the highway for about two hours, Sloat said.

Reports of wild pigs are not uncommon in the Bay Area. Last month, pig trappers in the South Bay were blaming the California drought on a rash of sightings.
