Cat Euthanized After Being Found Stuck in a Trap

The cat was discovered in a trap on Canning Avenue, south of Balboa Avenue and west of Genesee Avenue.

A cat found Sunday in an illegal trap had to be euthanized, according to the County of San Diego Department of Animal Services.

A Linda Vista resident reported finding the cat on Canning Avenue, south of Balboa Avenue and west of Genesee Avenue.

The cat was caught by his right front leg, county officials said. The damage to his leg was severe and he was humanely euthanized at an animal care facility.

Meanwhile, Animal Services employees are searching for the person who set the trap.

The individual could face felony animal cruelty charges and, if convicted, could spend a year or more behind bars.

In January, a raccoon was found stuck in an illegal trap in Tecolote Canyon and was also euthanized.

It is unknown if these two incidents may be related.
