Fight Between Swap Meet Vendors Ends in Stabbing

One man was stabbed in the leg Sunday at Kobe's Swap Meet

A fight between vendors turned violent Sunday at a Midway District swap meet when one man was stabbed, according to San Diego Police.

The incident happened around 12:30 p.m. at Kobey's Swat Meet, located at 3500 Sports Arena Boulevard.

Police say when they arrived, they found a 30-year-old man lying on the ground near a booth with a gash to his upper thigh.

According to witnesses, two vendors got into some kind of argument, which soon escalated when one 25-year-old man pulled out a knife and stabbed the other several times in the legs.

"When I arrived, it looked kind of severe. It was a pretty good leg injury, a lot of blood I hear he's going to be OK," said SDPD Patrol Sgt. William Pettus.

The stabbing suspect has been arrested, but he was first taken to the hospital for injuries received during the fight. The victim was also treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The area in the back of the swap meet was closed for about 45 minutes. Investigators are still trying to determine what the fight was about, whether the stabbing was in self-defense and if the suspect was carrying the knife or found it at a booth.
