Marin Wedding Photographers Close Down Business After Rejecting Same-Sex Couple

A Marin County husband-and-wife wedding photography team shuttered its business after turning down a same-sex couple seeking their services.

San Rafael-based Urloved photography was a successful wedding photography business with an ample client base -- until a same-sex couple from San Francisco tried to book its services.

Then, the business said no thanks. Nang and Chris Mai suggested to the couple that they pick a different photographer due to the "different personal beliefs that we have difficulty with," according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

So the couple did -- and they also went public with their outrage over being denied service due to being a same-sex couple, according to the newspaper, which led to Urloved receiving a raft of angry emails and phone calls.

Denying the service would seem to violate the Unruh Civil Rights Act, the newspaper reported.

Rather than deal with that, Urloved has shut down, the company announced on its website.

"We genuinely felt referring this couple to a photographer who does share their personal beliefs would provide them with the best service for their special day," they wrote. "Unfortunately, our artistic passion for excellent and personal beliefs were misinterpreted."
