Petition Calls For Grateful Dead to Play Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show

Online petitioners are asking The Grateful Dead and NFL to set up a memorable Super Bowl halftime show

A petition calling for the Grateful Dead to play during Super Bowl 50’s halftime show at Levi’s Stadium is gathering momentum online. The three-week-old petition is just shy of reaching its 15,000 signature goal.

“To commemorate 50 years of Super Bowl history, what better group of musical engineers to set a precedent during such an occasion…than the remaining members of The Grateful Dead!” wrote petition creator David Merchado on Change.Org.

As it happens, The Super Bowl and The Grateful Dead will both be celebrating 50-year anniversaries this year.

However, though there is clearly fan support for a Grateful Dead halftime show, the signers might just be out of luck: The legendary band members announced that last summer’s shows would be their last.

Meanwhile, the NFL is staying tight lipped on plans for Super Bowl 50, which takes place on Feb. 7.
