Report of Gunman on SJSU Campus Unfounded: Police

Police investigating a report of a person with a gun at the San Jose State University campus Monday afternoon determined there was no threat, authorities said.

Campus police received a report shortly after 3 p.m. of a gunmanin the Boccardo Business Complex, a classroom building for business students near South 10th Street, SJSU spokeswoman Pat Lopes Harris said.

Police began clearing the scene by about 4:30 p.m., after a thorough search, when it became clear there was no threat.

A student thought they saw something, reported it and police checked it out, an officer on the scene told NBC Bay Area's Ian Cull as the scene was being cleared.

All faculty, staff and students in the business center and the neighboring Business Tower had been intsructed by campus police to evacuate while officers conducted a floor-by-floor search.

During the search, San Jose police formed a perimeter around the business complex and directed drivers away from 10th Street.

The remainder of campus remained open throughout the ordeal, Lopes Harris said.

Bay City News and NBC Bay Area's Damian Trujillo and Ian Cull contributed to this report.
