San Francisco Landlord Enacts 130 Percent Rent Increase

A San Francisco landlord has increased a tenant's rent by 130%, effectively forcing her out of San Francisco.

One of the tenants, part-time Exploratorium biologist Bianca Liebhaber, told SFGate she has been priced out of the area once learning that rent on her two bedroom Bernal Heights apartment is increasing from $2,500 to $5,750 per month.

That's well over the average for the neighborhood, which Zumper last placed at $4,350.

The case has become a topic of discussion on Internet forum Reddit, where some commenters are compassionate but more who are perhaps desensitized to frequent Bay Area real estate horror stories are tending towards an unsympathetic stance ("I leased an Aston Martin for $1400 a month and now that the lease is over I can't afford to buy it. When do I get my sob story article published?).
