Twitter to Open “Learning Center” For Homeless

Tech giant's employees will teach "tech skills" to SF's downtrodden.

Twitter is giving San Francisco a place for the homeless to hone their tech skills.

Beginning next summer, the company will operate "The Neighbor Nest," a $1 million "learning center" where the city's homeless population will be able to learn computer abilities, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Twitter and other tech companies are obligated to give some kind of benefits to the city in return for a six year-long payroll tax exemption. The tax break came attached to "community benefits agreements" signed with the city.

The learning center will likely fulfill future obligations for the community benefits, the newspaper reported.

At the center, nonprofit Compass Family Services will be in charge, but Twitter employees will do some of the teaching.
