UC System Considering Ban on Rideshare Companies

The UC system is considering a ban on rideshare companies and Airbnb, the vacation rental web site.

University leaders said services such as Uber, Lyft, and Airbnb should not be used on business trips because of issues around regulations and liability.

Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom has condemned the move, saying the services save money, and the university should not work against innovators.

UC officials responded by saying the ban is not yet in effect, and they are looking for ways to overcome safety concerns.
