A judge on Wednesday ordered Swedish hip-hop artist David Moses Jassy, who is accused in an alleged road rage-related fatality in Hollywood, to surrender his passport and be electronically monitored if $1 million bail is posted on his behalf.
Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Henry J. Hall also agreed to a request by Deputy Public Defender Alba Marrero to postpone Jassy's arraignment until next Wednesday so the 34-year-old entertainer can hire a private attorney.
Jassy -- who kept his blue jail shirt pulled up over his face during the court appearance -- was charged Tuesday with one count each of assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, battery with serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of an accident.
John Osnes, a musician and pedestrian rights activist, was crossing Schrader Boulevard and Selma Avenue on foot early Sunday and used his hands to strike Jassy's car hood because the vehicle allegedly extended into the crosswalk, authorities said.
Jassy got out of his car and allegedly punched the victim in the face and kicked him in the head when the man bent over to pick up his glasses, then drove over the victim's body as he left.
Authorities said Jassy drove away despite attempts by witnesses, including an off-duty Anaheim police officer, to stop him.
An autopsy to determine the exact cause of Osnes' death is pending.
Jassy was arrested by Los Angeles police on Monday after they traced him through the rental car's license plate.
Outside court, the victim's sister-in-law, Darcy Bushnell, said the family has been "devastated" by the death of a man she called a self-taught "talented pianist" who worked in the travel industry so he could play professionally as much as possible.
