Stretcher Shock: LAFD Ambulance Rides to Cost an Arm and a Leg

Being transported by a Los Angeles Fire Department ambulance will soon get more expensive under a plan approved today by the City Council.

The higher price tag, which was assumed in the city's 2008-09 budget, will bring the LAFD's fees in line with those of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The council agreed to increase the Advanced Life Support response and transport fee from $889 to $1,044; the Basic Life Support response and transport fee from $622 to $712; and the mileage rate from $14.50 to $15.75.

The City Attorney's Office has 30 days to draft an ordinance that reflects the new fees.
