Hundreds Attend Free Health Screening Event in Long Beach

Hundreds of Long Beach residents attended a free, health screening event intended for the under insured and uninsured on Saturday at Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo High School, the first of its kind in the city.

The event called “Care 4 A Healthy Long Beach” was hosted and sponsored by Molina Healthcare and the Tzu Chi Medical Foundation, and drew adults and children in need of health, dental and optical care from health care professionals.

During the 8-hour event, more than 400 medical, dental, vision and acupuncture services were provided for attendees. Patients also received prescriptions the same day of the event, according to Molina Healthcare.

According to Molina Healthcare, while many attendees may have some form of health care coverage, dental and vision services are the highest demand.

Saturday’s free clinic was the first event of its kind in Long Beach that was hosted by Molina. The organization has held similar events in the Inland Empire and Imperial Valley for several years.

The health care group has held free health-screening events in areas where there is a large population of individuals may have gaps in their health care coverage, said Leidy Arevalo, a spokeswoman for Molina Healthcare.

Arevalo said “Care 4 A Healthy Long Beach” will likely return to next year.
