PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -- A boulder fell on state Route 62 north of Palm Springs on Monday, and two vehicles ran into it, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher said.

A silver-colored sedan ran into the rock about 1:40 p.m. along the stretch of road ascending into Morongo Valley and, about 15 minutes later, a vehicle towing a horse trailer hit the debris in roadway, according to the CHP.

A road crew was clearing the road by the time the second accident occurred, CHP.

The accidents was just one of dozens that occurred, mostly Monday morning, as a powerful storm cell swept across the region, dropping more than inch of rain in most spots.
